I was a humanities major (Russian language) with no regrets. I loved every minute of college and am glad I learned what I learned.
Last week I met a famous Russian journalist who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. It’s one of the great moments of my life. That never would have happened if I hadn’t majored in Russian.
I consider Russian literature the best the world has ever produced. Russian music ranks high as well. My youngest daughter performed Rachmaninov last week with the Utah Valley Symphony.
My soul has been nourished by the best of what 19th century Russian culture has to offer: Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Turgenev, and many others.
But apparently the humanities field is more likely than many other fields of study to result in regret.
