How to Help People in your Organization Focus on and Celebrate Results and Outcomes, Not Just Hard Work and Effort?

One of my employees was trying to clean up a massive database which had many errors

He was running macros manually, one screen at a time

It was taking forever.

We sat down to analyze the process he was using and how long it would take to finish, given his approach.

It would have taken 7 years.

When he realized that, we discussed alternatives.

We concluded that a few hours of programming would allow us to write custom software that would take a few hours to run and do all the clean up needed.

So that’s what we did.

A leader I respect a great deal once told me, “if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.”

I’ve thought about this hundreds of times.

When current course and speed isn’t good enough or fast enough, what do you do?

How do you help people see better paths forward and choose them?

People with #Strategic naturally consider all the options and try to choose the path that will be best.

#Maximizers crave excellence.

#Focus starts with the the end in mind.

But many talents can lead to hard work and effort and checking things off a list, rather than actually achieving the RESULTS or END GOALS that must be accomplished.

Question for leaders: What are your very best ways to help people in your organization focus on and celebrate RESULTS and OUTCOMES, not just hard work and effort?

(I suppose a list of ideas could be suggested for each of the 34 CliftonStrengths themes.)

Share one thing you do to help people start with the end in mind and achieve that end goal.
