One of the most memorable meetings of my career in tech was a conference call with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and AI Pioneer Sebastian Thrun, who was then running Google’s self-driving cars initiative.
Newt Gingrich asked if AI could write better legislation than humans.
Sebastian gave us a master class on how to train machine learning models and what kind of feedback loops might need to exist in order for AI to write good legislation.
My AI company is now building citizenportal(dot)AI to help Citizens use AI to become informed and engaged.
We plan to also launch elected(dot)AI to help the 585,000 elected leaders in the United States use AI to find out which laws and policies work best and lead to positive outcomes, and which do not.
Good policies lead to good outcomes.
Poor policies lead to poor outcomes.
I’m excited to see how AI can help usher in a new era of transparent government, and potentially even good government.
Today, I asked ChatGPT to write a bill for public school funding.
So it can already draft legislation.
But drafting legislation that has been found to have positive consequences in other jurisdictions is not possible yet.
Hopefully someday it will be.
