PDA vs Cell Phones
In the quarter ended June 30, 2.2 million PDAs were sold worldwide, slightly down from 2nd quarter 2003. Handheld market share leaders:
- PalmOne (42%)
- HP (39%)
- Sony (7.8%)
- Dell (4.6%)
- Medion (4.1%)
Contrast that with the 164 million cell phones sold worldwide last quarter. Market share leaders:
Online Commerce Projections: 2010
CBS Marketwatch: U.S. online retail sales are projected to more than double over the next six years and account for 12 percent of total retail sales in 2010, up from about 7 percent this year, according to a new report from Forrester Research.

In a sign of how the Internet is rebounding, Jupiter predicts that marketers will spend $8.4 billion on online advertising in 2004, while earmarking $12.2 billion for magazines. In 2007, the two platforms each will get $13.8 billion. In 2008, online ad spending surges ahead, capturing $15 billion, compared to magazines\’ $14.5 billion, Jupiter predicts. The gap widens in 2009. The Jupiter forecast is set to be released Wednesday.
Online Content Spending
Spending by U.S. consumers for online content rose almost 19 percent to $1.56 billion in 2003 from 2002, largely fueled by increases in the two top categories, the Online Publishers Association and comScore Networks said on Monday.
